A Great Resource

I found a wonderful place today. It is called a reuse center. I am told that they are popping up all over. This is a place that collects and redistribute recyclable materials. I got a used computor there. It is awesome. They had old schoolbooks, materials, anything that could be reused or recycled. My daughter is learning to sew, so finding material was fun. She has been sewing away all afternoon and evening. You might try looking for such a place. See what you can find. You also might consider sending them your recyclables.

Well today has been a great day. We have choir on Friday at our co-op.
Afterwards we had a deputy sherriff come and talk to the kids about
being an officers. We had a very cold rain so no outside today.

Todays resources are wonderful. If you know a family new to
homeschooling here is a wonderful resource. It is called the homeschool
toolbox. It has lots and lots of printables and ideas.

Where we began...

When we first started homeschooling we tried to do school. Just like ps. Well Beth did not do well in ps. She has Adhd. Her attention span is not the greatest. In public school all I got was they wanted her on more and more meds. It made her cranky and whiny. I do not know about you but I would take hyper over whining any day of the week. Since we began homeschooling I have learned a lot. But the biggest lesson I learned is not to even attempt to just do school at home. Textbooks are not always the answer. We do a lot of reading, hands on activities, and thinking outside the box. My daughter is thriving now. She takes only a small amount of medicine now. This has been a revelation for me. I have learned so much from other homeschoolers and from many books. Please know that you can do this. Your children are worth it.

Monday's resource

Well it is Monday. So I thought I'd start the week with a resource that is huge. It has so much. It is called "Sites for Teachers". Here is the link:

Tonights Activities

On the 3rd Friday of the month I attend a pitch in with other homeschool families in our area. It is a great time to talk with other parents. To share our passion for teaching our children. The kids love getting together to play. We have some wonderful cooks in our group. So the food is always good. The company is even better. Tonight was no differant.

Todays Resources

Let me share some things that have helped me in my homeschool experience. First use your local library. This is a homeschoolers best friend. I am extremly lucky to live in a small town that has a great library. It has everything anyone could need or want in a library. It is the best resource I have. My second favorite resource has been the local Goodwill. We have found some wonderful bargins on books. I even bought a Childcraft Encylopedia set for less than $10.00. I have bought bookshelves there. A much needed resource for a book junkie like me. My third resource I would to share is support from other like minded homeschoolers. If there is a co-op available, check it out. There is nothing better than to fellowship with others who understand your choice to homeschool your children. If there is not a local co-op, start one. It would even be worth traveling a little bit to spend time with others. The last resource I would like to tell you about is used book stores. To swap books or to find those hard to find books they are wonderful places to frequent.

Today

We had a wonderful day at the co-op. Beth is in chior. She loves it. Also the Indiana History Train was in town today. It was focused on Abe Lincoln and Indiana's contibutions to the Civil War. It was wonderful. They had some films with reenacters fighting a battle. They had a union soilder who showed the kids how to march as a regiment would. They had activities for the kids. One was to make your own battle flag. There was a geography station where you could test your skills on the battles of the Civil War. All in all it was an awesome day.

Today

Today has been a quiet day. Beth and I are so excited about the president's notebook we are working on. I think that notebooking has added so much to our homeschool experience. There are several sites dedicated to notebooking. I first got the idea from Cindy Rushton. She wrote a book called "Yes You To Can Be A Binder Queen". It was really a great resource. There is also a great site called The Notebooking Nook online. It has free resources and reasonable priced items. You should check them out.
